Most
of the time we do things, which has very little impact to this world or of no
interest to the rest of the world. Sometime you feel like a worthless piece of
s$#%. I have read the biography and autobiography of a number of high
achievers. Gandhiji for example, made a whole nation following him by the time
he was 40, Einstein became the first ‘scientist superstar’ in his thirties, and
Darwin made fundamental discoveries on evolution very early in his life.
One
thing in common to all the people I consider were successful in their
respective field (in terms of doing thing differently than other before them,
or doing things that’s worth a discussion in the peer circle) was their free
spiritedness. They are the people who dare to challenge the existing norms. By
being irreverent to authorities, by not allowing anyone to corrupt their
thoughts, by becoming a part of the right company and also by avoiding the
wrong company. They are the people who have an opinion on pretty much
everything and not afraid to express that opinion. They are the people who
really walk the talk.
All
these people have been surrounded by likeminded geniuses all through their
lives. Their ideas and thoughts evolved
by continuous discussion with other great-minds that they had the chance to
interact/collaborate with. May be that there is an element of attraction that
brought several smart people together. Fundamental contribution to a field of
knowledge is the stepping-stone to greatness. A contribution that gets you
noticed in your chosen field of study. Until one gets that break s/he is not in
the path to greatness. All of us are working for that break, of course not with
the objective of becoming a ‘great’ (after all what does that mean?). For that
I need to train my mind to think differently, challenge the ‘icons’ and know
the rules of my game very very well.
