Hello 2017!
I have travelled around the Sun once since I joted down anything on my blog. I had made a few commitments to myself, most of them still remain work in progress. One specific task was to discuss the class papers in genetics. Never materialized. I made some progress in the area of bioinformatics, but not significant. The reason was, I got busy with a project that demand a lot of time in the lab. The project is still far from completion. So I do not know how many of my 2017 resolution will be materialized. But here are few:
1. I am going to note down my progress in bioinformatics at least once a week.
2. I will discuss scientific reports that I find interesting.
3. I will note down interesting technical knowledge that I gather for my experiments.
Every New Year day is a reminder of gone time. Lately I am feeling an urge to give back some thing useful and productive to the world I belong to. I have been a learner through out my life. I have spent 90% of my life so far in academic institutions of some sort, starting from the preschool days to the current postdoc years. I feel guilty that I have not produced anything of practical value to the society so far. Except for relieving few cows from the pain of their mastitis, and similar inconveniences. It is high time that I do something meaningful. Sometime in 2017 I will decide what should I do with my life for the next 5 years at least (Another RESOLUTION, give me a break you Resolutionist!). But seriously, I think I will make that decision once I finish my current project.
I am follower of 'Alchemist' religion. I believe that if you really inspire for and work hard towards achieving a goal, the universe will conspire to make it a reality (sorry for mutilating the verses of Coelho). I am aiming to work in academia as a independent scientist. Don't have any clue what exactly I will work on. By writing down my thoughts and interesting developments in the field, I hope to achieve a clear mind on what I should do in near future. Lets see if Alchemy is a real deal! I think it will be better to start a new blog for it. I will link this blog there once I start the new one. See you there!
