Listened
to a podcast named The Good Life Project by Jonathan Fields. The first one I
listened to was an interview with Elizabeth Gilbert. It had a number of interesting
view points. The opposite of depression is curiosity. I found that statement by
Fields very interesting. Is it true that if someone is genuinely curious they cannot
get depressed? It sounds very likely to me. But the curiosity should be pure and
genuine. If it is mixed up with other motives such as ambitions, money etc. it
would not work. But can everyone be curious all the time? How about
distractions such as a serious illness for you or someone you love. How to
separate emotions?
What
does good life mean to you? I am paraphrasing the answer by Gilbert the way it is recorded in my
memory. A good life means having the discipline to stay awake and alert to be curious.
That is the highest form of prayer. For reasons not clear to me God has put
life into my hand believing that I could do it. If the universe believe so, it is
most likely be true. It thought, I am going to give this precious, fragile life
into her hands and throw in all sorts of obstacle, set backs, failures,
victories on her way and see if she can come out without being embittered. Many
peoples had trails of disappointments and shame in their past life. But they also
had moments of reckoning. At one point they decided that they do not want to
exist as these billions of unconnected molecules moving in space. They want to
be an integrated whole thing. A real human being. In doing so they became
heroes. That is good life.
Beautiful! Should read some of her works.
