Another year gone by. Overall, it was a good year for me personally. But I am not sure how to delineate personal and impersonal effects of events. I got good funding for my research in 2023, which will keep our program running for few years. I traveled to visit my folks and old friends. Gave research talks in a couple of places. There are many reasons to be happy about.
At the same time, there are moments of existential crisis. Is everything a simulation? It has been a feeling that has been bugging me for sometime now. In reality it does not make much difference for my life or anyones life. But if so, everything, me, my loved ones, this world, the universe, can vanish in a moment. It is this thought that bothers me. We are all characters of a virtual reality universe. I was just watching an Asimov debate on this topic. It is fascinating to know that physicist and philosophers actually think about it.
Along that line of thought, I create everything. So what is good for me should be common good. Well, these are all interesting thought experiments. Life is happier and simpler when we think less. As Tolle says, all we have is this moment. Lets stay here.
