War and peace

I saw part of a disturbing video of a little girl saying goodbye to his father in Ukraine. It was a painful to watch. So was many other pictures that came to me in the last two days. Russia invaded Ukraine. For what? Many reasons, and justifications, but ultimately it boils down to the selfish ambition of one person, or a mob. 1000s of people fleeing their holmes, in the depth of winter and during pandemic. 1000's who might die, millions who would lose their loved ones. Why?

Centuries ago, there were many unihabited lands that had to be occupied.  People used to fight for survival, for self defence and to satisfy the basic instincts. But the world has changed a lot.  Now, atleast in the democratic countries, people vote for those who promise to bring peace and prosperity to the world. Almost everyone want a good life, food, shelter, health, better education for children and pleasant world. How many people willingly vote and elect those lunatics who promises to invade another country, aquire more land mass, and promises blood and toil? There could be situations where moments of mass hysteria, mostly out of collective fears and insecurities, when such things happen. But who with common sense would chose of such life?

What should we strive for, as humanity? Death or life? Misery or prosperity? War or peace? Ignorance or knowledge? Superstitions or science? Disease or health? Vaccine or virus? There are so many pains and sufferings in people life that are beyond anyones control, natural calamities, accidents, pandemics. But if we have a choice, why should we chose mysery over comfort, for oneself and for others? At one point, we all die, the earth will cease to exist, the solar system will disintegrate, life, as we know it, might perish. We have two choices, one, we can accelerate that end and commit a mass suicide now, or work our ass off, have fun, and find a way to escape that mass extinction to explore the universe far and beyond. Yes, in one way the whole life is pointless, but in another way, life is the most miraculous and beautiful creative force in this world. As with anything else, it is all about how we look at it. Lets look at it in a positive way, for the rest of the minuscule of time we have left to live it.
